5 creeper weed strains that’ll trick you into getting really stoned

Pat GogginsPublished on October 27, 2021 · Last updated November 5, 2021
night of the living dead
Be careful how much you smoke, because they’ll get you. ('Night of the Living Dead', 1968/Image Ten)

With Halloween right around the corner, what better way to get in the spirit than by smoking some creeper weed.

You know the kind: You smoke a bunch of it and don’t get high or think you somehow forgot to inhale, and just when you turn to your friend to say, “Hey, I don’t think I’m getting—” BAM. You’re in the couch. They sneak up on you and before you know it, you’re completely stoned.

Smoking a creeper strain is like the weed version of waiting for a jump scare in a horror movie. You know the killer’s around the corner, and you wait, and wait, and then suddenly a knife flashes across the screen and some teenager’s blood is all over the walls.

The danger with creepers is that people tend to keep smoking because the effects are delayed, but then the high catches up, all at once.

So a word of warning with creeper strains: Be careful how much you smoke, because they’ll get you. Creeper weed will sneak up on you every time. Even if you know it’s a creeper.

So if you’re looking for a good surprise, or just some killer weed that happens to creep, here are 5 creeper strains to watch out for.

Snow Leopard

Much like its namesake, a Snow Leopard high will lie in wait, winding up its hind legs and wiggling its butt, waiting to pounce. When that high does spring, you better have a soft cushion to lay back on—it is one potent beast.

This heavy indica is also known to turn on the giggles. But rolling around on the ground might not last too long because this creeper is also a sleeper—once the potent high winds down you’ll be down for the count, like doing too many zoomies in the middle of the night.

Granddad might be a little slow to the game, shaking its fist at you to slow down, but when it does kick in, smokers will be rewarded with heavy euphoria and body relaxation.

Mango

It’s easy to get lulled into the sweet, citrus taste of Mango. This tropical strain is known for easing anxiety and chilling out at the end of the night, and you’d be surprised how much it smells exactly like the fruit.

Mango is more of a soft creeper—when it does finally kick in, it’s usually pretty mellow, not jarring. This mood-booster has a smooth smoke, making it easy to toke all night long, right into bedtime.

Take your time with Banana Punch because when the high comes on, it’ll put you down for the count. With a lot of Kush and some GDP in its lineage, this strain is potent and particularly relaxing.

Its sweet taste of banana, berries, and pineapple makes it easy to keep smoking, and its orange hairs and white trichomes make it a pretty flower to look at. This one will give you the giggles and is great for chilling out with some tunes turned up loud.

Alaskan Thunder Fuck

Hailing from Alaska, ATF, or Alaskan Thunder Fuck, is a hearty strain grown in the north and known for its intense smells of pine, lemon, and skunk—some love it and some hate it.

This old-school classic is noted for its intense euphoric buzz that settles into heavy relaxation, and its classic creeper effect, which will sneak up on you like a Yeti in the wild.
